ABSTRACT

Digital transformation, which significantly impacts our personal, social, and economic spheres of life, is regarded by many as the most significant development of recent decades. In an industrial context, based on a systematic literature review of 262 papers selected from the ProQuest database, using the methodology of David and Han, this paper discusses Industry 4.0 technologies as the key drivers and/or enablers of digital transformation for business practices, models, processes, and routines in the current digital age. After carrying out a systematic literature review considering key Industry 4.0 technologies, we discuss the individual and collective ways in which competitiveness in contemporary organizations and institutions is enhanced. Specifically, we discuss how these technologies contribute as antecedents, drivers, and enablers of environmental and social sustainability, corporate growth and diversification, reshoring, mass customization, B2B cooperation, supply chain integration, Lean Six Sigma, quality of governance, innovations, and knowledge related to dealing with challenges arising from global pandemics such as COVID-19. A few challenges related to the effective adoption and implementation of Industry 4.0 are also highlighted, along with some suggestions to overcome them.

ABSTRACT

Talent Management plays a crucial role to support the business continuity and empower the most important asset for the company - its people. The role that Talent Management has played was highlighted in different aspects across the organization, starting from developing competent HR team and HR department structure that can influence company culture by taking an active approach in this regard. The journey started by working with the executives and stakeholders across the business to evaluate the current company culture, assess potential gaps or opportunities, and create a strategic plan to align the organization's culture with its values and goals. Moreover, a deliberate building of core and supplementary HR systems serving the business strategy while respecting culture readiness has taken place. This started off with developing leadership development programs, conducting a competency management system for better training and skills development, relying on assessment tools in recruitment and using these tools in the on-boarding, knowledge sharing approach, creating a performance management culture and working on continuous development and improvement. The Leadership Development Program was achieved on 3 phases: Assessment phase, Development phase and re-assessment phase. One of the main objectives that we tried to focus on while implementing the leadership development program was to find employees who are potential leaders and nurture them early enough. In addition, it was crucial to identify a Leadership Competency Profile to have a clear, compelling vision of how the skills we were building in the leadership development program connect to the leadership road map in the company. In addition, and in the light of Covid-19 and the absence of Employee Training in 2020, the HR department came out with an initiative to carry out internal knowledge sharing workshops across the company. These workshops aimed at increasing employees' awareness with the different functions across the company in addition to increasing the level of engagement, communication, and presentation skills for employees. There is always a need to measure where we are and the progress done so far to know where we want to be and adjust the process accordingly. Therefore throughout all of these processes and programs, different feedback surveys were conducted to take necessary action plans. This helped in getting all employees onboard with us. Ultimately the alignment that was made between the Talent Management and the overall company's business strategy resulted in the company's ability to maintain a competitive advantage. A huge progress was made but the process continues to sustain this role. Copyright © 2023, Society of Petroleum Engineers.

ABSTRACT

The pandemic is not only changing the structure and functioning of the world economy, but it will also have lasting impacts on the international business strategies of large multinational enterprises (MNEs). We have identified new research questions in the realm of effective governance design, host country opportunities and risks, appropriate levels of subsidiary integration, and the desired involvement of foreign subsidiaries in expanding the firm's activity domain. For scholars studying the strategies of the world's largest firms, this is an opportunity to design better research studies, more closely aligned with managerial practice and therefore more likely to include sound managerial prescriptions. ABSTRACT

This study aims to examine the suitability of the conceptual model regarding the effect of business strategy, user competence, organizational structure on the Effectiveness of Management Accounting Software (MAS), and how the influence between the variables studied during the Covid 19 Pandemic took place. Quantitative methods are used to test the suitability of the proposed model and to determine the predicted effect between the variables studied. The data were tested using Covarian Base Structural Equation Model (CB-SEM) with Lisrell 8.5 software. This study uses primary data collected through questionnaires to a population of 118 State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Management Accounting departments in Indonesia, with a selected sample size of 100 SOEs, which were selected using a simple random technique. The results of this study succeeded in confirming the conceptual model developed by the researcher and empirically proving the influence of business strategy on MAS Effectiveness, user competence on MAS Effectiveness and organizational structure on MAS Effectiveness in Indonesian SOEs companies. The effectiveness of MAS depends on the relevance of the needs of its users. The right business strategy, effectively provides relevant information for the company to design MAIS according to user needs, so that the company's operational activities run effectively and efficiently, the company is able to implement a Cost Reduction Strategy through production cost savings, production process accuracy, implementing product differentiation and low pricing strategy with a focus on customer needs during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of this study contribute to producing strategic management accounting information to anticipate business continuity during and after the Covid 19 Pandemic and to help overcome the crisis due to the Covid 19 pandemic in the early stages of the Covid 19 Pandemic by optimizing business strategy, organizational structure, and company HR competencies. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Corporate social responsibility can assist in reducing the noise caused by pricing volatility and a lack of energy-efficient business solutions. The study's objective is twofold: (i) to investigate the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in reducing volatility through the contribution of energy-efficient strategies;(ii) to identify research trends in the field that may indicate future research directions for the development of more dynamic strategies that will help in mitigating the impact of pricing volatility. A five-step bibliometric analysis was applied to address the research question. The findings were visualized by using bibliometric tools such as R Studio, Biblioshiny, and VOSViewer. Chinese academics have been revealed as pioneers in integrating CSR into corporate strategies to reduce volatility and support energy-efficient investments. Moreover, results indicate that financial institutions must embrace a new business model based on both CSR and environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) principles. Since very little is known about the interaction structure between CSR and ESG in the mitigation of price volatility, the purpose of this article is to bridge that knowledge gap. The pioneering character of this research—the construction of a business model based on the principles of CSR and ESG—contributes significantly to both the field's knowledge and the practice of corporate sustainability management.

ABSTRACT

Due to an unprecedented threat from COVID-19, the World Health Organization recommended the introduction of physical distancing measures, such as quarantine and social isolation. These measures have severely affected some sectors of the economy, hampering the development of many economic activities, especially retail. In this context, this article investigated strategies for the dissemination, commercialisation and distribution of goods during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly related to small companies that were not yet fully integrated with digital technologies. We perceived a forced digital transformation, disclosure on social networks, negotiating sales through text messaging applications, electronic payments and motorcycle and bicycle delivery service. The combination of different technologies has supported small businesses in times of pandemic, since commercialisation in digital media has been one of the main solutions for the prevention of bankruptcy, particularly for physical companies. ABSTRACT

While manual analysis of news coverage is difficult and time consuming, methods in natural language processing can be used to uncover otherwise hidden semantics. This work analyses more than 370,000 news articles to explore connections and trends in business decisions and their financial impact during the COVID-19 pandemic. Topic modelling, sentiment analysis and named entity recognition methods are used to identify connections between the articles and the financial performance of selected companies or industries. This report sets out the results of the individual natural language processing methods and the resulting analysis with financial data. Interesting contrasting topics in the media can be filtered out that are associated with the companies with the highest or lowest positive sentiment. This information could be useful to companies to gain an understanding of topics that are currently treated favourably or unfavourably by the media and hence assist with communication strategies and competitive intelligence. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Mobile commerce (m-commerce) is highly regarded because of its essential characteristics, for example, flexibility, personalization, ubiquity, identification, and dissemination. More so, in the current COVID19 pandemic crisis. COVID19 has drastically changed the world and possibly irreversibly. Business strategies and practices has to adapt to changes in the business environment. These changes generally promoted online business transactions and interactions, making m-commerce an essential business feature. However, there are inherent risks and disadvantages that cultivate anxiety in m-commerce and impacts negatively m-commerce adoption. This makes trust one of the key success factors of m-commerce. In this paper, we explore trust in m-commerce to generate knowledge considering a pandemic crisis context. This research-in-progress seeks to contribute by generating knowledge on emergent main players, such as, AliExpress, Alibaba's merchant showcase. In addition, expected contributions include validation of the theoretical construct of antecedents and consequence of trust in m-commerce considering a pandemic crisis context. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThis study aims to explore business strategies adopted by small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK's grocery-retail industry to cope with supply chain (SC) disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopted two phases of research methods. In Phase 1, in-depth interviews were conducted with ten SMEs from England. Whilst abiding by national guidelines on the travel restrictions imposed by the government, in Phase 2 email-based interviews were conducted with 22 SMEs across the UK's grocery-retail industry. The thematic analysis technique was adopted to analyse the data.FindingsThis study reveals that SMEs need clearer avenues of communication with the government and better resources for learning and training. SMEs also need to expand their implementation of information technology to improve SC collaboration. In the meantime, they need to improve their power positions in SCs and reduce dependence on SC partners.Originality/valueSMEs in the grocery-retailer industry have been increasingly under pressure to compete with bigger grocery retailers. During the pandemic they have faced great challenges and been looking for strategies to improve their performance. While a major proportion of participants in the grocery-retailer industry are fragmented SMEs, the majority of studies have focussed on larger retailers and end consumers. With the help of the social exchange theory, this research reveals new insights into business strategies to cope with SC disruptions, and offer the foundation for a new line of research on preparation for future disruptions.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: To understand how to deal with high effect situations, like that associated with COVID-19, in the future, many economists, academics and business leaders are drawing parallels between the 2008 financial crisis and the current pandemic. This study aims to explore how crisis elements can be considered while strategizing for business research despite the minimal possibility of an emergency occurring. Also, research in crisis management is fragmented, resulting in isolated components guiding businesses through crises. This research emphasizes the relative scarcity of a comprehensive crisis management framework. Design/methodology/approach: COVID-19 has been the biggest crisis the world has ever confronted, and businesses require an innovative strategy to address it. Towards keeping the data set involved in this study targeted and manageable, articles are selected from peer-reviewed journals based on a purposive sampling method. In addition, the research used reports from consulting firms and government and nongovernment organizations to understand current trends in business research. Findings: The findings revealed that for a firm to survive a crisis, it must ensure its plans are aligned with the trends that would allow it to grow during the crisis. Rather than entirely changing the track, strategies should be guided by the company's existing resource availability and capabilities. The techniques used must ensure the company's profitability or limit losses, thus ensuring long-term viability. Real-life examples from the current pandemic have shown how firms who recognized crisis characteristics could survive the pandemic and profited multiple times. Originality/value: It presents an integrated, sector-agnostic crisis management framework based on literature, business managers' insights and lessons from the current pandemic. Precrisis, crisis arrival, crisis management and crisis experience are the four phases of the framework. The study proposes future research directions to scholars in applying the framework and its enhancement concerning the upcoming crisis possibilities. © 2022, Emerald Publishing Limited.

ABSTRACT

This study addresses customer experience management (CXM) in upscale restaurants. Specifically, it examines restaurateurs' perceptions of customers' changing needs following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, it identifies restaurants' CXM strategies that are being used now and could be retained in the future to provide memorable customer experiences. A qualitative study was conducted via in-depth interviews with managers of Michelin-starred restaurants in 12 countries. Lexical analysis was used to examine customers' needs and reflexive thematic analysis to identify CXM strategies. Before the pandemic, customers sought "immersive” and "amazing” experiences, while after, they craved "reassuring”, "sociable”, and "unparalleled” gastronomic experiences, as well as an experiential home service delivery. In addition, previous CXM strategies (i.e., customer experiential immersion, engagement, intrigue, and listening) have been superseded by reassurance, conviviality, gastronomic experimentation, and home luxury gastronomic experience delivery. This study provides a model of CXM to support restaurant managers in creating memorable CX. © 2022

ABSTRACT

Globalization has paved the way to diminishing boundaries and increasing trade between countries. Consumers today have vast choices of products originating in both domestic boundaries as well as foreign countries. Yet, all foreign products are not viewed with the same pride and esteem. Products originating from different countries have different perceptions in the minds of consumers. The COO research has gained further importance in the current COVID-19 pandemic scenario, given the Government of India's wide-scale initiatives towards Atmanirbhar Bharat to make India more self-reliant, and the people of India are widely accepting such views. Few researchers have studied the COO effect on purchase preference for domestic vis-à-vis foreign products in India. The present study, therefore, investigated the country-of-origin effect on the relationship between the evaluation of domestic products and their purchase intention in the Indian context. The COO effect was investigated for the home country as well as a foreign country, that is, China. Understanding the country-of-origin effect of imported products vis-à-vis domestic products helps marketers plan their marketing strategies at both domestic and international levels. © 2023, Associated Management Consultants Pvt. ABSTRACT

This study examined and analysed the role of remote transformational leadership in business strategy consensus by considering the contingency of competitive intensity and organisational learning culture. The population of this study are owners or service managers of start-up business companies in the provinces of DIY and East Java. The sampling technique used was a purposive sampling method with a sample size of 231 managers. The data was collected through the distribution of questionnaires and interviews with several key service managers who represent their companies. Euclidean Distance Simple Regression and Euclidean Distance Simple Regression Moderation were used as the statistical processing tools. The results of this study proved a fit between each business strategy typology with each contingency variable examined in this study. It was also found that transformational leadership could strengthen the relationship pattern. The contingency approach is crucial because situations and conditions between organisations may vary depending on the company's internal (organisational learning culture) and external (competitive intensity) environment, especially in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic. Contingency fit in the organisational strategy needs to be assessed so that the service performance can be improved and sustainable in the long term. This situation and condition will improve when strengthened by the role of remote transformational leadership. © 2022 Muafi Muafi et al., published by Sciendo.

ABSTRACT

The paper presents an overview of a monograph "Response of the Russian business to the COVID-19 pandemic (the case of six industries)" prepared by a team of authors from the Higher School of Economics. According to the initial review of research publications about the pandemic's effect on the economy, there is a lack of studies on local consequences of coronavirus restrictions for particular industries. Methodologically, the monograph relies on a wide range of approaches, such as the theory of industrial markets, macro- and microeconomics, and new institutional economic theory. Among the main research methods are evaluating the traditional economic indicators and qualitative analysis of expert assessment. It has allowed obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the processes during the strictest lockdown measures, as well as the processes of business adaptation to the new post-pandemic reality. The monograph's authors examine six industries: retail trade, IT, tourism, pharmaceutical, chemical and automotive. The book reveals one of key paradoxes of the current crisis in the Russian practice: oftentimes companies from the most affected industries have found themselves in a winning position, whereas industries that initially received advantages have suffered losses. This is largely attributed to the digitalization of interaction with customers and suppliers attained in the pre-pandemic period.

ABSTRACT

The recent witnessed pandemic COVID-19 caused severe distress in the Global Supply Chains (GSCs). Worldwide lockdowns, job losses, etc. helped in the creation of this problem. We describe the characteristics that distinguish epidemic outbreaks as a distinct supply chain disruption risk category. It is clearly highlighted that there is lack of visibility of disruptions in GLOBAL SUPPLY Chains and delayed industry response to COVID-19. The COVID-19 outbreak has certainly forced firms to re-evaluate their business strategies. The lead time, the speed of epidemic propagation and the upstream and downstream interruption durations in the supply chain are all significant aspects. This research can be used by decision teams to predict the short-term and long-term impacts of supply chain occurrences and to define pandemic supply chain strategies and tactics. This paper discusses the impact of COVID-19, the effect of lockdown and problems in existing technologies. Possible solutions regarding reducing the effect of pandemic and plans to prepare for the future are also depicted. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press. All rights reserved.
